Trigg County got off to a slow start in their two preseason scrimmages, but first-year head coach Amy Breckel remains optimistic with the start of the new season less than a week away.

The Lady Wildcats were defeated by Ballard Memorial 66-35 Saturday in a scrimmage at Paducah Tilghman.

"I thought we played much better than we did in our first scrimmage," said Breckel. "I thought our man-to-man defense was much improved."

Ballard Memorial outscored Trigg 18-4 in the first quarter and led 34-19 at halftime.

Felicia Crenshaw and Molly Walters each scored five points in the second quarter that saw Trigg outscored 16-15.

Crenshaw finished with a team-high 11 points, while Walters added five.

The Lady Wildcats were outscored 17-10 in the third quarter and 15-6 in the fourth.

Laquisha Boyd scored seven points, Brandy Blakeley scored five, and Lakyn Brooks added four.

Trigg County struggled at the free throw line, hitting just 14-of-30 (46.6%).

"We know teams are going to press us because of our lack of depth at the guard position. We shoukd get better there," Breckel said.

Kayla Cooper led Ballard Memorial (15-12 last year) with 22 points, while April Carter added 21.

Trigg County also had a slow start in their loss at McLean County Nov. 16, losing four of the five quarters played in Calhoun.

McLean County (5-24 last year) outscored the Lady Wildcats 17-10 in the first quarter and 24-2 in the second quarter, with Lisa Burton scored 14 of her game-high 32 points in the frame.

The Lady Cougars outscored Trigg 19-6 in the third quarter and 20-10 in a fifth quarter.

Trigg outscored McLean 9-7 in the fourth quarter.

Laquisha Boyd led Trigg County with 11 points, while Felicia Crenshaw added 10.

Lakyn Brooks chipped in with six points, and Molly Walters scored four for the Lady Wildcats, who hit 7-of-18 free throws (38.8%).
