Trigg falls to Lady Lyons 73-49

The inside-outside tandem of Allison Mussato and Tiffany McGregor proved to be too much for Trigg County, who dropped a 73-49 district decision to Lyon County Dec. 14 in Eddyville.

Mussato had 24 points and 16 rebounds, while McGregor hit four 3-pointers and finished with 18 as the Lady Lyons won their third straight game over Trigg County and eighth straight game in Eddyville.

Mussato and McGregor scored 20 of Lyon’s 27 first quarter points as the Lady Lyons used an 18-2 run to build a 27-8 lead after the game’s first eight minutes.

Lyon’s pressure defense forced eight first quarter turnovers that led to 15 Lyon points. For the game, Lyon held a 31-18 advantage in points off turnovers.

Lyon County outscored Trigg 17-11 in the second quarter for a 44-19 halftime lead.

15 of Trigg’s 27 turnovers came in the first half, which resulted in Lyon attempting 16 more shots from the field.

The Lady Wildcats shot 39-percent from the floor and had three 3-pointers. But their struggles continued at the free throw line where they hit just 10-of-23 (43-percent).

Lyon County hit 53-percent in the first half but cooled to 33-percent in the second half and finished at 43-percent (29-of-67) for the game. Lyon hit all eight of their free throw attempts.

Laquisha Boyd led the Lady Wildcats with 16 points and five rebounds, while Felicia Crenshaw added 13 points and five assists.

Molly Walters hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with nine points.

Mussato and McGregor combined for 42 of Lyon’s 73 points but no other Lady Lyon scored in double figures.

Lyon County improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in district play.
