Caldwell County jumped out to an 11-0 lead and never looked back in handing Trigg County a 58-29 loss in the semifinals of the girls Fifth District Basketball Tournament Tuesday at Wildcat Gym.

The loss ended Trigg County’s season at 8-18.

Caldwell used a 2-2-1 press to force 23 turnovers in the contest. The Lady Tigers feasted off the miscues to the tune of 26 points.

Trigg County was also beat on the boards 41-25 by Caldwell County, who had 16 second chance points to just two for Trigg County.

Senior guard Felicia Crenshaw, playing in her final game as a Lady Wildcat, was the only Trigg player in double figures with 11 points. Laquisha Boyd added eight points and eight rebounds for the Lady Wildcats, who shot just 27-percent from the field and did not make a 3-pointer.

Caldwell County (16-10) got 23 points and nine rebounds from Amanda Cortner, while Melly Heaton added 11 points.

The Lady Tigers, who have won 14 straight district titles, moved into Saturday’s championship game for a chance to make it 15 in-a-row. They will play the winner of Thursday’s Livingston Central/Lyon County game.
