A memorial service for Mary Phil "Skip" Egerton Higgs, 76, from Nashville, Tenn., formerly of Trigg County, was conducted on March 5, 2005, at Christ Episcopal Cathedral Church in Nashville.

Mrs. Higgs died on February 28, 2005, at her home in Nashville.

Mrs. Higgs was born on July 14, 1928, in Richmond, Va. She was the daughter of Graham and Rebecca White Egerton.

Mrs. Higgs graduated from Trigg County High School in 1945, and attended the University of Alabama and Western Kentucky State Teachers College. In 1948, she married Barnie A. Higgs of Petersburg, Va. In 1949, she and her husband went to Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) as missionaries of the Methodist Church. In 1968, they returned to the U.S., and made their home in Nashville, where she finished work for her B.A. degree, graduating from the University of Tennessee. Skip retired in 1993 as Director of Publications at Vanderbilt University.

Survivors include her husband, Barnie A. Higgs of Nashville; two sons, Graham E. Higgs of Columbia, Mo., and David A. Higgs of Point Washington, Fla.; two daughters, Janet Higgs, and Mary H. Higgins, both of Nashville; two granddaughters, Gillian Beach, and Barbara Beach, and a grandson, Jack Beach, all of Nashville; two brothers, Graham Egerton of Cazenovia, N.Y., and John Egerton of Nashville; a sister, Anne E. McDaniel of Owensboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.
