Funeral services for Chester Lee Bland, 86, of Cadiz, were conducted on Saturday, March 12, 2005, at 2 p.m., at Goodwin Funeral Home.

Rev. Irvin Darnall, Rev. Jimmie Oliver, and James Harold Jones officiated at the services. Burial followed in Trigg Memory Acres Cemetery in Cadiz.

Mr. Bland died on Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at 1 a.m., at his residence of natural causes.

Mr. Bland was born on March 23, 1918, in Trigg County. He was the son of the late Jesse James and Beulah Agnes Shelton Bland.

Mr. Bland was a farmer and a carpenter, and was of the Primitive Baptist Faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, B.J. Bland, and Franklin Bland; a sister, Ealer Calhoun; and a nephew, Curtis Taylor.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Nella Skinner Bland, of Cadiz; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Jim Jones of Cadiz; two sisters, Opal Jones of Edwardsville, Ill., and Beulah Mitchell of Princeton; two grandchildren, Jenifer Morgan of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Kristina Conterez of Diamond, Ill.; five great-grandchildren, Kristina Jones, Carnell Morgan, Jr., Darnell Morgan, Bre’Anna Conterez, and Antonio Conterez; and several nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers were Larry Bland, Tom Calhoun, James Harold Jones, Carl Wade Mitchell, James Sanders, Jr., and Carl Ray Sumner.

Honorary pallbearers were Frank Mitchell, Johnny Bland, Darrell Sumner, Plomer Barnes, Eric Craig, Raymond Sumner, Jr., Freddie Bryant, Dotson Morgan, Rachel Jessup, Debi Anderton, and Wilda Underwood.

Music was provided by Roy Marquess, Jr., vocalist, and Carole Schafer, pianist.
