The group from BMAR and Associates, of Hopkinsville, is currently preparing to install and complete the first dock of the new marina, which is expected to be completed by Memorial Day.
"I would think by the weekend you would see structure groups going up on dock number 5," Thomason said Monday.
The crews with BMAR, LCI, Inc., of Memphis, Tenn., and Atlantic Meeco, of McAlester, Oklahoma have been working for several weeks on the docks and ship store that will be set up in as little as 2 days, Thomason said.
The workers are currently setting up base portions of the new ship store, which will sell Bass Pro Shop merchandise. Thomason said the old, existing ship store will be used for office space and a restaurant that is being spearheaded by Scott Jolly, of Cadiz.
So far the groups have completed nearly all of the courtesy and fuel dock. Thomason said the old fuel lines will be reused once the new British Petroleum gas pumps are installed.
Pieces for the new ship store have arrived and are waiting assembly. Thomason said the state has yet to approve the anchoring on the base of what will be the new store. Once the anchoring methods are approved, Thomason said the store will be initially built and then finished at a later time.
Thomason that the entire project is nearly two-thirds completed. He said the project typically slows down when the crews begin installing roof portions on the docks, as the installation process is slower than assembly processes.
Thomason also said that the crews have had some issues with the weather, which dumped over an inch of rain last weekend alone. However, all things considered, Thomason said the new facility will stand out among many in this region.
"I think that when this is in, we are going to have the best marina in the southeast United States," he said. "Nobody is going to be ale to touch it."
