Earlier last week, the preparation for the event began with over 1,000 flags being lined along Main Street to welcome the upcoming holiday. City street flags were also replaced with the celebratory colors of red, white and blue.
However, as many were preparing for the annual fireworks display at Lake Barkley State Resort Park, some new rules that have been in place caused some mixed emotions among the people who attended the annual fireworks show at the park’s beach.
As attendees approached the gates to the park, they noticed signs saying something that has never been there before.
“No personal fireworks,” the multiple signs on the route to the beach read.
In years past, the management at the park has been fairly lenient with the use of fireworks by the park guests. However, a regular attendant to the fireworks display easily noticed the need for some change.
“Every year somebody out here gets hurt,” Nineteen-year-old Bradley Breedlove said.
Breedlove is a Trigg County resident and has attended the show since he was small.
“It’s for the safety and I understand that,” he said. “There’s too many people out here to be careless.”
