Even so, Ronnie Gray, chief at the East Golden Pond Volunteer Fire Department (EGPVFD), remains humble and attributed all of his success to the group of individuals who are behind him.
“I think I have the best crew in Trigg County,” Gray said.
Kentucky State Fire Marshall Area 2 Coordinator Ed Schmidt said the award is given on more of an at-need basis. In his 5 years on the job, he has only awarded two “Firefighter of the Year” awards.
“This is something that is given when needed,” Schmidt said.
He said the factors that played into the decision for the award are based on “the quality of work, the direction he takes his crew through and his dedication.”
