Selected from more than 3,500 entries, Broadbent's bacon was judged first in the National Association of Specialty Food Trade's Outstanding Meat, Pate and Seafood category of competition.
Winners were announced Monday evening at a Meet the Tastemakers reception at the Javits Convention Center, said Beth Drennan, who attended the tradeshow with her husband Ronnie. The Fredonia couple purchased the Cadiz company, primarily known for its Kentucky country hams, in 1999.
"We were delighted. We were surprised but we were tickled to death," Mrs. Drennan said.
For winning, the company received a gold trophy with a representation of the association's logo, a chef holding a covered plate.
