Volleyball team takes early district lead

Trigg County took the first step in clinching the top seed in the Seventh District Volleyball Tournament with a win over Caldwell County Aug. 25 at Wildcat Gym.

The Lady Wildcats need three games to dispatch of the Lady Tigers 17-25, 25-23, and 25-13.

Trigg County was on the verge of being put away in short order after losing the first game 25-17 and falling behind 17-9 in the second game. The Lady Wildcats rallied to win the game 25-23 and win the match.

Kalesha Williams had ten kills for Trigg County, while Cayla Hampton added seven kills and four aces.

Stacy Schoneman had four kills, and Casey Banister had 14 assists.

The late addition of Livingston Central to the district formed a four-team league, with only the first match between each district opponent being counted toward seeding for the tournament.

Trigg County can wrap up the top seed with wins over Crittenden County Aug. 30 and Livingston Central Sept. 8.

Caldwell County won the JV match 21-8, 21-6 and won the freshman game 21-13, 22-20.

Trigg County began the week with a 18-25, 25-4, 23-25 win over Todd County Central Aug. 23 in Elkton.

Trigg County, now 3-6 on the season, travels to Fort Campbell Tuesday for a 6 p.m. match on post.
