Funeral services for Henry E. Snyder, 65, of Giddings, Texas, formerly of Cadiz, were conducted on Tuesday, September 13, 2005, at 10 a.m., at Goodwin Funeral Home.

Rev. Terry Mitcheson officiated at the services. Burial followed in the Pugh Flat Cemetery in Trigg County.

Mr. Snyder died on Friday, September 9, 2005, at 7:30 a.m., at his residence in Giddings, of natural causes.

Mr. Snyder was born on October 20, 1939, in Golden Pond, Ky. He was the son of the late Jesse Ray and Mary Elizabeth Hawkins Snyder.

Mr. Snyder worked on his family’s farm in Golden Pond in his early life; served in the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell; then farmed Dr. John Futrell’s farm in Linton; worked for 15 years as a manager at Bailey Lumber Company in Cadiz; worked with his wife, Donna, at Cedar Chest Apparel; his family moved to Texas in 1980, where he worked with his two sons in a family-owned delivery service company in Houston, Texas; he retired in 1994, and spent time both in Texas with his children, and Ky., his home; and he was a member at New Light Baptist Church in Cadiz.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Ray Snyder; and a sister, Bessie Snyder Castell.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Paulette Francis Snyder of Giddings, Texas; two sons and daughter-in-law, Dale and Shellie Lynn Snyder, and Hank Snyder, all of Houston, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Polly and Scott Atwood of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Laura Walker of Hopkinsville, and Barbara Snyder Saturley of Grayslake, Ill.; three brothers, Tony Snyder and Cecil Snyder, both of Hopkinsville, and Maxie Snyder of Cadiz; a great-uncle, Dorris Francis of Cadiz; four grandsons, Daren Snyder Brad Snyder, Brian Bares Snyder, and Shane Bares.

Serving as pallbearers were Thomas Skinner, Joshua Thomas, Jamie Hestand, Danny Hampton, Michael Francis, J.L. Hendricks, Jr., Jack Sailor, Eddie Snyder, and Christopher Hampton.

Honorary pallbearers were Lynn Bailey, Newell Bailey, and Dennis Layfield.

Ricky Key, vocalist, and Martha Fortner, organist provided the music.

Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas.
