Last year was the first year in the nearly 30-year history of the event that horses were not allowed in the parade. Several horse owners were angered by the rule change, which they said was a bad idea.
Renaissance on Main Director Cindy Sholar, who was one of the organizers last year and in many past years has bowed out of this year’s parade planning for the flack that came from last year’s decision.
“I’ve done it for so many years and I’ve taken my last cussing over it,” Sholar said.
Ham Festival Committee Chairperson Thelma Fowler said that in addition to allowing horses back into the parade, there have been some other changes to the parade.
