Attorney John Tilley has filed for candidacy in the race for state representative in the eighth district, a position currently held by James Carr (R-Hopkinsville), making him the first to file in opposition to Carr.

Tilley, a practicing attorney in Hopkinsville, will be running as a Democrat to help represent the people of Christian and Trigg Counties better, he said.

Carr switched political parties earlier this year, opening the door for a Democrat to run without having to run a primary election campaign. Tilley said Carr’s switch “made it easier” to make the decision to seek the representative’s post.

“I think there is a need to have it done better, for the people of Christian and Trigg counties,” he said.
