Midcats take second at Christmas Tournament

Trigg County couldn’t overcome a strong performance by Drakes Creek middle schooler Dee Anderson and fell to the Bowling Green school 67-62 in the championship game of the Trigg County Middle School Christmas Tournament Saturday at Midcat Gym.

Anderson scored 35 points to lead the Greenwood feeder school to the title.

Trigg County led 32-26 at halftime, but Drakes Creek tied the game at 45 heading into the fourth quarter.

Zach White led Trigg County with 24 points, and Jalik Alexander added 16 points.

But the Midcats could look at one stat that led to their downfall – free throw shooting.

Trigg County was 14-of-39 (36-percent) from the free throw line, including 3-of-15 in the fourth quarter.

Drakes Creek hit 20-of-35 (57-percent) from the charity stripe.

Zeke Wright battled a knee injury to finish with nine points for the Midcats, who also got six points from Josh Adams, four points from Mitch Rogers, two points from Jamus McAtee, and one points from Javin Grubbs.

Trigg County advanced to the championship game with a 45-23 win over Caldwell County.

The Midcats jumped out to a 15-4 first quarter lead and outscored Caldwell 24-11 in the second and third quarters combined.

Zeke Wright led Trigg County with 15 points, while Demarcus Hurt added eight points off the bench.

Zach White scored six points, Jamus McAtee scored four, and Jalik Alexander and Tanner Stallons each scored three points. Mitch Rogers, Javin Grubbs, and Andre Wright each scored two points.

Nate Dyer led Caldwell County with nine points.
