Staff Sgt. Christopher J. Vanderhorn, 37, of Pierce, Wash., was an infantryman assigned to C Company, 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team. He entered the Army in September 1996 and arrived at Fort Campbell in February 2004.
Vanderhorn is survived by wife, Teresa, and sons, Max and Liam, of Fort Campbell; and parents, Robert and Nancy Vanderhorn, of Beaux Arts, Wash.
Vanderhorn’s awards and decorations include: Weapon’s Qualification, M4, (expert); Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal; Joint Meritorious Unit Award; National Defense Service Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal; Army Good Conduct Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; NATO Medal; Air Assault Badge; Driver and Mechanic Badge; Parachutist Badge; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.
A memorial service for the fallen Soldier will be held in Iraq. Fort Campbell holds a monthly Eagle Remembrance Ceremony the second Wednesday of each month.
