The chairman was referring to the pending announcement of a slate of candidates for some of the county’s top positions. Howell said at least two persons would seek the office of County Judge Executive while six of the seven magistrate districts will also field a republican.
Everyone has been invited to the 1 p.m. announcement to meet with the candidates as well as some of the top republicans who currently represent Trigg County.
U. S. Representative Ed Whitfield will head the invitation list, Howell said. In addition, the chairman of the Kentucky Republican party, Darrell Brock, and the West Kentucky chairman, Russ Randel, are also expected to be present.
State Senator Ken Winters and State Representatives Melvin Henley and James Carr will also be present.
Nine candidates are expected to be announced Saturday and Howell said he hopes the party will have additional candidates prior to the January 31 deadline.
At least two of the candidates, Stan Humphries and Larry Kemp will face each other during the primary elections. Both will be seeking the position of County Judge Executive. At least one of the magistrate seats may also be involved in the primary election, Howell said.
