Just weeks after it was first announced at April’s city council meeting, Cadiz’s newest business will open its doors Thursday.

Candys Campers, based in Halfway, Ky., is calling 15 acres off U.S. 68/80, adjacent to Industrial Park 3, its new home. One of its homes, anyways — the Cadiz location makes dealership number three for the family owned and operated business.

“We’re excited about Cadiz for a couple of reasons,” said Sales and Finance Manager Clark Hammers.

Foremost among them is the large amount of traffic that flows past their new location. According to Hammers, about 28,000 people travel along I-24 and U.S. 68/80 every day.

For visitors going to Lake Barkley or Land Between the Lakes — many of whom are RV enthusiasts — the Cadiz I-24 exit is their main get-off point, Hammers said. It is also a convenient location for travelers on their way to Florida, he added.

Steven and Sherry Burnett opened their first dealership in 1996. About a year and a half ago, they opened a second dealership near Murfreesboro, Tenn. According to Hammers, they are the No. 1 dealership of pull-able trailers in Kentucky.

Hammers said the company had been looking at a west Tennessee location when the opportunity in Cadiz arose.
