The 59-year-old Cadiz man who was found dead in 18 inches of water Friday, April 14 was killed by a “massive heart attack,” according to Trigg County Deputy Coroner John Mark Vinson.

That conclusion comes after an autopsy by Vinson, with assistance from the Western Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office.

Charles Wetjen, of 148 West Park Place, was found between a bank of Lake Barkley and his dock, where he had been operating on his boat.

Vinson said Wetjen was found at 3:30 p.m., roughly twenty to thirty minutes after his heart attack. He said the results would likely have been the same whether Wetjen had suffered the heart attack on the bank or if someone had been with him to immediately call 911.

Wetjen, a retired landscaper, had a history of heart problems, Vinson said.

In addition to Vinson, also responding to the scene were: the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office, Trigg County EMS and Trigg County Rescue.
