The Trigg County High School site base council held a special called meeting on May 23 to discuss several issues, including the hiring of three new teachers and a replacement for retiring principal Sharon Knight.

The first item on the agenda was the criteria for AP history classes. Trigg High history teacher Coby Lewis said that out of 40 students who are going to be juniors or seniors in the fall, only 11 met the established criteria. He said there were some students who had 4.0 grade point averages who still hadn’t qualified for the class.

Lewis discussed the need to keep the opportunity to take the class open for more students as long as they were willing to work hard. He said that keeping some students out of the class based on the criteria would be merely limiting their achievement and that it would make more sense to let more in so that their improvement could be helped along.

“I don’t want to slam the door in anyone’s face,” he said.
