Pre-registration and medical release required for racers. See blown alcohol, hydros, jets, and flat bottom boats run in excess of 150 miles per hour. Wetland Ecology Canoe Trip – Energy Lake
$25 per canoe. Includes same day NS admission. Registration limited. Reservations and full deposits required. Call 270-924-2020 to reserve your space. Recommended for adults and teens. Meet at Energy Lake Boat Ramp. Canoe with the Nature Station staff as we take an in-depth look into wetland ecology. We will paddle across Energy Lake to our exploration destination: a giant beaver marsh known as Ferguson Springs. There, we will search for wetland birds, wildflowers, plants, and animals! Meet at Energy Lake Boat Ramp. Hey ladies! Whether you’re 5 or 55, we invite you to enjoy a morning of learning to bait, cast, and reel, or even just spend some time by the lake. Bring a pole if you’ve got one or borrow one of ours. Meet us at Energy Lake Boat Ramp and dress to be out in the sun. We’ll provide the bait.

As a main source of food for a 19th century farm, the vegetable garden must be kept in good order. Come help us pull weeds, hoe rows, and maybe even pick some of the crop. Program recommended for Home Educators.

National Trails Day Hike – Nature Station
In honor of National Trails Day, we are offering a staff-led, one-mile hike on one of our favorite nature trails. The trail will take us along the edge of a field, through the woods, and to a lakeshore. We will keep our eyes open for signs of wildlife along the way. Meet at Nature Station.

Summer Nights GPP/GPO
Join the planetarium staff for a special indoor/outdoor show at the Golden Pond Planetarium. First, come inside our 40-foot diameter dome planetarium for a show. Then, weather permitting, venture outside to the observatory for a look at the real thing. Doors open at 7:30pm and close 8pm sharp, be sure to arrive early. Showing tonight is Ring World.

Processing Pig Iron – Center Furnace
Meet at Center Furnace, by Hematite Lake. Stop by and visit the remains of the Center Furnace near the Woodlands Nature Station. LBL interpretive staff will be on hand to tell the story of the furnace and to explain the process of iron production as well as what environmental impacts the iron industry had on this area.

Discover the unknown world of the treetop canopy. Often overlooked, the canopy is full of unique birds, bugs, plants, and other critters that rarely set foot on the ground. This slide show followed by a backyard stroll will open your eyes to their sky-high world.
