The latest lack of fiscal responsibility came during the last meeting with a unanimous vote to take bids on a new location for the Trigg County Sheriff and County Dispatch office.
With the planning destruction of the present Trigg County Courthouse, both offices will have to find new locations and bids were certainly expected.
However, instead of planning for the future the elected body decided to stay with the past and constructed the bid so that only current locations in the downtown area would be acceptable. One of the specifications in bid notes that parking is not important.
Of the buildings available none – absolutely none – are satisfactorily wired for new technology. Most are using plumbing that is outdated and the electrical wiring wouldn’t be allowed in a modern facility.
The county has a golden opportunity to use its sale of the courthouse to the state for the construction of a modern facility to house both the sheriff and dispatch, yet won’t even consider the option.
Elected officials – under the guise “that’s what the people want” – are going to pump thousands of our tax dollars down the toilet if they are allowed to approve such a move.
There are better options than purchasing an old, outdated building. Our sheriff and dispatch service need a modern new facility where the latest in technology can be housed. They need a facility that will be centrally located and allow ample parking.
We’ve said it before, and we’ll keep saying it even if we are the only voice that does, taxpayers deserve better.
