She was born on January 1, 1924 in Christian County, Kentucky, a daughter of Clarence and Myrtle Hardin Stewart. Her formative years were spent in the Hopkinsville area.
On May 27, 1947, she was united in marriage to Russell B. Hester in Detroit, Michigan. Sr. Master. Sgt.. Hester was in the U. S. Air Force and they made their home in many places during his military career. Following his retirement in 1961, they made their home in Christian County. Mr. Hester died November 23, 1986.
Since 1991, Mrs. Hester has divided her time between Fort Wayne and Columbia City.
Mrs. Hester, a homemaker was a member of the First Baptist Church in Columbia City.
The surviving relatives include three daughters, Audrey L. Netterfield, Fort Wayne, Marcia (Jim) Babcock, Columbia City, Carolyn A. Thompson, Fort Wayne; a son, Russell W. “Sonny” (Brenda) Hester, Paoli, Indiana; eleven grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren and a great great grandchild; a sister, Shirley (Bruce) Baker, Buffalo, New York and a brother, Raymon (JoAnn) Stewart, Cadiz, Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy L. Atkinson; two grandsons, Scott Atkinson and Larry Hester; a sister, Katherine Boren; six brothers, Buddy, Carlos, Jack, Doug, William and Edward Stewart.
The funeral service was held at 7 pm Tuesday in the Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City Pastor Jeff Harker of the First Baptist Church, officiating.
The committal service and burial will be at 1 pm Thursday in the Green Hill Memorial Gardens in Hopkinsville.
