On July 11, Gov. Ernie Fletcher and the Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD) presented ceremonial checks to Land Between the Lakes in the amount of $100,000. The money is for maintaining the Turkey Bay Trail System and also to improve the North/South trail.

“This funding will allow the 80,000 annual visitors to the Land Between the Lakes to further enjoy their visit to one of our state’s great scenic treasures,” Fletcher said in a press release. “This is just another step in our efforts to make Kentucky an even better place to live, work and visit.”

$50,000 will go to maintaining the North/South trail, which is 65 miles long. $25,000 will go to hardening and stabilizing a creek crossing on the Turkey Bay Trails, while the other $25,000 will go to routine maintenance of the trails, which total about 100 miles in distance.
