The Ms. Fits Relay For Life team provided $25,000 to the American Cancer Society in 2006, but they are not content to rest on their laurels. The gang is already hard at work fundraising for 2007. Over the past weekend, the Ms. Fits held a yard sale at the home of team member Dannye Wagner to raise money for 2007.

“Pat’s goal is to make sure nobody leaves without buying something,” said Wagner of team mate Pat Board at the Canton yard sale.

Wagner said the sale had met the goals thanks to community support. “Today is our last day, and we are having some big markdowns. We’ve been very successful because people have been buying our treasures. We’ve had good weather, good people and a good community behind us.”

The sale was held Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Popular items included books, clothes, bedding and other linens. All items for sale were donated to the cause by members of the community.

“People bring us things to sell. Sometimes items come from ladies of the team, other times people bring us things that they aren’t using and don’t have time to sell themselves,” said Wagner.

Any of the items not sold were to be donated to the Helping Hands and Crossroads Fellowship organizations to help more people within the community. Before the sale, the Ms. Fits prepared boxes for the families of the Barkley Manor fire.

“We have no large fundraisers, just a lot of events throughout the year. On October 25, we are having one called ‘Fashion, Food and Fun’ at the Cadiz Christian Church. It’s a style show and luncheon. It’s something we’ve never done before,” said Wagner.

“It is important to raise funds to find a cure. A cure gives hope to people with cancer, and giving hope is what the Relay is all about,” Wagner added.
