Funeral services for John Henry Hancock, 82, of Herndon, were conducted on Monday, September 11, 2006, at 11 a.m., at Goodwin Funeral Home.

Rev. Billy Hancock officiated at the services. Burial followed in Flat Lick Cemetery in Christian County.

Mr. Hancock died on Friday, September 8, 2006, at 8:50 a.m., at his residence of natural causes.

Mr. Hancock was born on May 24, 1924, in Christian County. He was the son of the late Harvey and Lucy Hargrove Hancock.

Mr. Hancock was a retired farmer, and was of the Presbyterian Faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Turner Hancock; and a son, James Edison Hancock.

Survivors include a son, Henry Hancock of Lafayette; two daughters, Carolyn Hancock and Kathy Hancock, both of Lafayette; a brother, Harvey Hancock of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Debbie Vier, Pam Roehr, Jon Hancock; Chris East, and Becky Nichols; and eight great-grandchildren, Patrick Vier, Katey Hancock, Carson East, Triston Walker, Ada Roehr, Gracey Hancock, Elizabeth Roehr, and Harrison Nichols.

Serving as pallbearers were Chris East, Scott Nichols, Jon Hancock, Michael Roehr, Kenneth Cherry, Robert Brown, and Becky Nichols.

Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Barbee, Mike Barbee, Donnie Hancock, Lois Poindexter, Odell Cherry, Bud Claxton, and Kenneth Morris.
