Graveside services for Ira Ewing Shelton, 80, of Cadiz, were conducted on Sunday, October 1, 2006, at 2 p.m., at Trigg Memory Acres in Cadiz.

Rev. James Cox officiated at the services. Burial followed in the cemetery.

Mr. Shelton died on Thursday, September 28, 2006, at 5:40 p.m., at Jennie Stuart Medical Center following a long illness.

Mr. Shelton was born on June 13, 1926, in Trigg County. He was the son of the late William Riley “Buck” and Grace Sholar Shelton.

Mr. Shelton was retired from the State Penitentiary; was a member of the Baptist Faith; and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in WWII.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William “Doc” Shelton; and five sisters, Esther Stallons, Oni Walker, Mary Lou “Tiny” Bagby, Lucy Adams, and Lorene Colson.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Futrell Shelton of Cadiz; a son, Don Shelton of Cadiz; a daughter, Sandy Davis of Nashville, Tenn.; and a grandchild, Brittany Davis.

Rev. James Cox, vocalist, and Billy Fletcher, vocalist and instrumentalist, provided the music.

Serving as pallbearers were Mike Walker, Alex Walker, Larry Shelton, Roy Adams, Jimmy Greer, and Mike Turner.

Goodwin Funeral Home was in charge of all the arrangements.
