Lake Barkley State Resort Park Manager John Rittenhouse announced that the lodge would close January 1, 2007 for scheduled remodeling.

The $6 million project will remodel both wings of the lodge, add carpet in the dining room, replace the main lobby floor and improve the lodge’s infrastructure. Rittenhouse added, “There is a slight chance we may work on the convention center and the Little River Lodge, but right now, we are concentrating on the Lodge itself.”

Workers have commenced remodeling the Lodge already, though operations will continue until the New Year. Rittenhouse said that cabin/cottages, the Lodge Restaurant, the Little River Lodge and the golf course would remain open along with hiking trails. The airport is scheduled to remain in operation during the Lodge’s remodeling.

“We’re proud of the Lodge, but it is a bit dated. We’re bringing the Lodge into to the 21st Century. A lot of the infrastructure improvements will not be seen, but things like heating and cooling will add to efficiency, and make the Lodge more comfortable and safe for guests,” said Rittenhouse.
