Revs. Irvin Darnall and Mike Jones officiated at the services. Burial followed in East End Cemetery in Cadiz.
Mr. Oakley died on Friday, November 10, 2006, at 12:10 a.m., at Marshall County Long Term Care in Benton of natural causes.
Mr. Oakley was born on April 20, 1923, in Golden Pond, Ky. He was the son of the late James Beacher and Effie White Oakley.
Mr. Oakley was a Timberman, having helped clear the right-of-way for Land Between The Lakes; retired from Standard Forging Steel Mill in Hammond, Ind., in 1983; and was of the Baptist Faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Collins Oakley; three sisters, Dorothy Shelton, Lorene Futrell, and Ruby Futrell; and three brothers, Lois Oakley, Odell Oakley, and Theodore Oakley.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, H.L. and Jane Oakley of Benton, and Joe and Jan Oakley of Cadiz; a daughter and son-in-law, Junia and Garry Thomas of Cadiz; a step-daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Jim Martin of Knoxville, Tenn.; a stepson and daughter-in-law, Gene and Kathy Bizzell of Hammond, Ind.; a sister, Elsie Cornell of Hopkinsville; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Jan Oakley, pianist, provided the music.
Serving as pallbearers were Dwayne Oakley, Jason Oakley, Jimi Oakley, Marc Thomas, Jamey Thomas, Rick Martin, Mark Martin, and Jimmy Martin.
