William Tharpe officiated at the services. Burial followed in Oliver Cemetery in Lyon County with Military Rites.
Mr. Cooper died on Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at 7:30 a.m., at the VA Hospital in Marion, Ill., following a long illness.
Mr. Cooper was born on April 9, 1923, in Kanawha City, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Edward and Mamie Lawrence Cooper.
Mr. Cooper was a retired self-employed carpenter, and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary K. Scott Cooper in 2000; and a sister, Mary Katherine Mynes.
Survivors include three sons, Danny Cooper and Russell Cooper, both of Dry Branch, W.Va., and Herschel Cooper, Jr., of Elkview, W.Va.; three daughters, Christine Tharpe of Drakes Branch, Va., Carolyn Justice of St. Albans, W.Va., and Marilyn Kelley of Belle, W.Va.; 16 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
