For the third year, Santa has found helpers in the Trigg County High School’s Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA). The high school students of HOSA collected toys for Toys for Tots at Friday’s basketball game. Fans who provided a toy for the group received $2 off their $4 admission price.

Marianna Baker of HOSA said that all toys collected would go to Trigg County’s Toys for Tots campaign as a chance to benefit the community during the Christmas season.

Faculty sponsor Clara Beth Hyde said that HOSA’s toy drive collected donations for the past two Christmas seasons. Last year, Hyde estimated HOSA collected over 50 toys.

“All the clubs around school were adopting angels from the Angel Tree, so we wanted to do something different. We decided to work with Toys for Tots, and have had a pretty good response,” said Hyde.

This year, HOSA opened its toy drive to visiting team fans. Crittenden County fans benefited from the $2 savings while helping underprivileged Trigg County Children enjoy the holiday season.

HOSA exposes students to career opportunities in the health care profession. Student Morgan Alexander said that the group planned to tour Murray Calloway Hospital

The group is involved in many philanthropic activities, holding a spaghetti lunch to raise money for the Trigg County Relay For Life, is involved with the Unite to Read program to show parents how to encourage better reading skills in their children, spreading information about the Great American Smokeout, and the Trunk or Treat program that offers children healthy snacks at Halloween.
