Mayor Lyn Bailey swore in the six City Council members on Dec. 28 who were reelected in November. They are Susan Bryant, Jim Ricks, Manuel Brown, Donna McNichols, Bob Noel and Frankie Phillips.

“Boy, you talk about a well-dressed city council, look at all these folks,” Bailey said before the short ceremony, commenting on the suits the men and women wore. They were dressed quite a bit more formally than they usually are at their regular monthly meetings.

Although the taking the oath of office may have been old hat for the incumbents, this was not the case for Alex Jenkins, who unofficially took the oath at the same time as the council members. Jenkins and Skye Darnell, who could not be there for the ceremony, are two high school students who will attending council meetings and will be serving as nonvoting youth council members. This is part of a civics-related agreement that teacher Donna Kranz worked out with the city students voted in a mock election. Several other students will also be serving as nonvoting members of the Trigg County Fiscal Court.
