Trigg County Judge Executive Stan Humphries said this week he would ask members of the County Magistrates to approve an increase of the Insurance Premium Tax rate for Trigg County residents.

A public hearing has been called for Thursday, March 15 at 5 p.m. and another on Tuesday, March 20 at 6 p.m. in order to meet necessary requirements to submit the proposal to state officials, Humphries said.

The meetings will be held in the basement of the Courthouse Annex and open to the public for comments.

In announcing the proposal, the Judge/Executive said the last time such an increase was proposed was when the late Zelner Cosney was in office. “We (Trigg County) can’t continue to operate without searching for new ways to raise revenues,” Humphries said.

“Our costs on everything is going up yearly, but the county hasn’t been keeping up with the income to support those costs.”
