Funeral services for John Barnwell, Sr., 64, of Princeton, were conducted on Saturday, March 3, 2007, at 1:30 p.m., at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.

Rev. Duane Burden, assisted by Rev. Lester Watson, officiated at the services. Burial followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Barnwell died on Thursday, March 1, 2007, at 1:50 p.m., at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., following a long illness.

Mr. Barnwell was born on December 17, 1942, in Hopkins County. He was the son of the late Lee and Pauline Averitt Barnwell.

Mr. Barnwell was a retired Coal Miner; a graduate of Murray State University; a Kentucky Colonel; a veteran of the U.S. Army; and was a member of Midway Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Shea Barnwell.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Crocker Barnwell of Princeton; a son, John Barnwell, II, of Caldwell County; step son and wife, Mike and Susan Crocker of Caldwell County; step-daughter and husband, Renee and Bill Clift of Caldwell County; a brother, Bill Thomas of Beaver Dam; and four sisters, Mahalie Bradford of Arizona, Alverda Jones, of Louisville, and JoAnn Ashby of Madisonville; a sister, Bobi Todd of Madisonville; and several nieces and nephews.
