Under criticism from the Lakeland Artisans’ Guild for under-promoting tourist attractions other than hunting and fishing, the Trigg County Tourism Commission will conduct an open forum at 6:00 P.M., Thursday, March 29 at the Lakeland Jamboree to address the concerns of critics and explain their mission.

Tourism Commission President John Ruffli said, “Until we have some dialogue between their organization and ours, I would hate to say specifically how we can address their concerns. In some sense the purpose of the hearing is to make people aware what the tourism commission can do under legislative rules, and get public input from individuals and organizations within Trigg County to improve our efforts.”

Judy Freeman of the Lakeland Artisans’ Guild said, “We want to advertise the works that our members produce for the tourists and other craftspeople who visit the city and county.”

Freeman said that her organization received no help from the tourism commission. “I know we have got to get a flyer out, but we gave some to the commission and they might as well have thrown them away. We haven’t seen them at the information centers along I-24 or downtown,” she said.

“Until recently, we did not have any contact with the artisans’ guild, and were not aware with what they are trying to do. Our mission is to promote all aspects of Trigg County tourism and bring people into the area,” said Ruffli.
