The Trigg County High School baseball team squared off against the Colonels of Christian County, number six in the state, last Monday in the season opener. Christian County faced a tougher Trigg team than they expected. The Cats gave the mighty Colonels a scare in Hopkinsville, KY, losing only 5-0, as they prepared for a long week of action. The team faced four tough opponents this week: Christian County, Russellville, Todd County Central, and University Heights.

Senior Lucas Riddle started pitching in the match. He performed well and the Cats kept all-quiet in a scoreless first inning.

Trigg recorded a base hit in the 2nd. Christian County tallied up an error, giving Trigg some good thoughts early in the game.

Christian County’s Matt Reed drew the first blood in the 4th with a 2-run homer.

Keith Tandy, also from Christian, pinch ran for Christian County’s Joiner in the fifth. Tandy was able to steal three straight bases on the Cat’s defense. John David Fourqurean was given an error as a ball rolled through his legs, leading to another Colonel run. The final point of the game came from an RBI later on in the fifth. The rest of the match was dead.
