Although The Cadiz Record has had difficulty obtaining information about a military accident that occurred at the Linton Recreation Area on April 4, the paper finally received an e-mail explaining the circumstances on April 24.

According to Kimberly Laudano, public affairs officer for the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, several soldiers were preparing for routine training on April 4. The training was set for April 9 through April 12. At the time of the accident, the soldiers were conducting safety tests on Zodiak boats that would be used in the training. As part of the inspection, they had to flip the boat to examine the bottom.

“When the boat flipped, it landed on one of the soldiers hitting him in the head/neck area,” Laudano wrote. “The soldier said that he heard a ‘pop’ when the boat hit him.”

Laudano said that during any training activity, safety in “prevention measures and incident response is of paramount importance.” To avoid taking any chances, the soldier in charge told the soldier who hit his head to not move in case he had any serious injuries. He then made the 911 call.
