Commandant Eldon Pontius said the event was a tribute to veterans honoring all branches of the military. He said the idea to hold the event to raise scholarships came from member Tommy Winn, who performed several with his wife, Linda. One original tune Winn performed was called “War Stories from Grandpa,” in which his grandson, Landon Sumner, asked about his war experiences. Winn tells him about running off the Japanese – or was it the Germans? — before admitting that he simply “peeled a lot of ‘taters.”
“I kept the army fed so they march straight ahead,” Winn sang in the chorus.
Sumner also wowed the crowd with his fiddle playing.
