Although Republican incumbent Ernie Fletcher and Democratic candidate Steve Beshear managed to get enough votes to avoid a June runoff election, the turnout for last Tuesday’s primary was still pretty low across Trigg County as well as the state.

Trigg County Clerk said the county would save money by not having to hold a runoff election and that she was relieved. She attributed Beshear’s higher numbers to State Treasurer Jonathan Miller dropping out of the race and endorsing Beshear.

“I was a little surprised, but with Jonathan Miller pulling out, it probably saved us from having a runoff,” Thomas said. “It was still close.”
