Cadiz Police Chief Hollis Alexander said that an internal investigation cleared Officers Scott Brown and Chad Grace and Sgt. Rick Martin of any wrongdoing during the April 3 incident. Alexander’s report said that the three officers acted in accordance with departmental policy after giving Dawson several warnings to leave the building. Upon ignoring the warnings, the report said that police arrested Dawson, who “turned away” from the arresting officer and “raised his arms.” Throughout the incident, police say that Dawson entered a state of a “violent cursing rage.”
Dawson has denied employing any violence against the police, and claims that he was struck “three or four times” on the back of the leg and once on the right buttock with a police baton by Grace, taken in a headlock and punched by Martin and tackled by Brown.
