A reporter for The Cadiz Record arrived at the called meeting time of 9 a.m., but by the time he located the meeting it was already underway. Mayor Lyn Bailey explained that his office was a “more comfortable place to meet” for a small group.
Bailey said that after Rogers told him the media had been notified, the committee decided to call the meeting to order in his office. Bailey said the door had been closed to avoid the noise in the hallway and the front reception area. He said he didn’t see anything wrong with holding the meeting in his office, since public meeting notices only specify that they will take place at City Hall and the reporter was tardy.
The only topic of discussion being held at the time the reporter was admitted, concerned a report from City Clerk Lisa Rogers said that the city is currently insured by the Kentucky League of Cities. However, she said that she had received an unsolicited bid from Curneal and Highnite Insurance Insurance of Elizabethtown.
That bid was for $78,248.29, which was considerably lower than this year’s KLC quote of $112,538. The city paid KLC a total premium of $110,491 for insurance for the 2006-2007 fiscal years she said.
