Lisowsky said the council doesn’t require much from the museum for partial funding, but they are required to put the Kentucky Arts Council logo and give them credit on all their advertising and promotional materials. In order to obtain the money the museum has to prove its viability, which is done in part by showing the council their complete financial accounting, she said. One of the most important things is that the museum shows that they operate all year. They must also demonstrate how close they come to meeting their goals for income.
The museum’s annual operating budget is about $50,000. The Kentucky Arts Council can theoretically give up to 10 percent of an organization’s budget, but the museum hasn’t ever quite that much, Lisowsky said.
