As US Representative Ed Whitfield’s (District 1, R) Field Representative, Michael Pape answered a few questions about legislation of local interest while visiting Lake Barkley State Park for a check presentation to the Barkley Lake Water District.

“Representative Whitfield is working on the Water Resource Development Act, which is currently in a conference committee. When they work out the wording on the bill, it will go before congress for a vote. If approved, it could go into effect as early as next spring,” said Pape of a bill to maintain area lakes at a summer pool level until as late as Labor Day. The higher water level permits boaters to enjoy the lake for a longer period, possibly attracting more tourists to the area.
