The Helping Hands charity will be having its big annual fundraiser, Pass the Hat Day, in various locations from noon to 5 on Friday.

Helping Hands cofounder K.G. Ariagno said that volunteers would be at every bank and grocery store in town. This includes both branches of the Bank of Cadiz, both branches of Integra Bank and Heritage Bank. This also includes the three Cadiz grocery stores: Washer’s IGA, Food Giant and Hancock’s Neighborhood Market. There will also be a few people taking donations in front of the Helping Hands food bank on the corner of Marion Street and Main Street.

Ariagno said she hopes to have at least two volunteers at each location. Anyone still wanting to help can call 522-5615 to volunteer. She said that if any young people needed to fulfill any community service hours for school or other things, this is a very easy way to do it.

“There’s no cleaning involved,” she said. “Just begging.”

Ariagno said that Helping Hands managed to raise about $5,000 at last year’s Pass the Hat Day.

“This is our big fundraiser for the year,” she said. “This is the one we all count on.”
