According to Assistant Park Manager Ron Sydnor, the Kentucky Equal Employment Office will join the program to present a seminar on applying for employment within the state park system and for positions within state government.
“We start the program at 6 p.m. with a kickoff from Mayor Lyn Bailey and judge/Executive Stan Humphries. At 6:15, we’ll have gospel music, then a talk from Mr. William Turner, a Christian County Historian on African American History,” said Sydnor.
The park will then host Erma J. Bush of the Kentucky Humanities Council’s Chautauqua Players as she portrays her character Miss Dinnie Thompson: No Ordinary Woman. The one-woman show presents Thompson’s experiences as a slave, attempts to escape to Ohio through the Underground Railroad, and life as a free woman after Emancipation in 1865.
Saturday morning brings a blind-draw golf scramble to the Boots Randolph Golf Course at the park. Sydnor said that the event begins with a shotgun start.
“We’ll have Ron Bryant giving a presentation on African Americans in film, literature, song and art, then at 11:00 a.m. we’ll have an African American dance performance. The interactive experience invites audience participation,” said Sydnor.
