The Cadiz/Trigg County Tourist Commision will be holding the Bluegrass Jam downtown at the Renaissance Stage for the first time this year on Sept. 8.

Board member Alan Watts said he was helping to organize the one-day music festival this year while the board is still without a director. He said that the event had been held at Lakeland Jamboree for the last few years, but that it would be outside this year to accommodate more people. He said that about 200 people could stand in the Jamboree building and that it had been filled to capacity in the past.

Watts said the main show would start at about 6 p.m., but that the stage would open to the general public in the afternoon for freestyle jamming. Several groups have been booked for the main show, including the Slimey River Boys, which is group made up of musicians from Cadiz, Bumpus Mills, Tenn. and Clarksville. Also on the bill in Logan County Grass.

Watts said that the Lions Club would be selling concessions and that he hoped the outside setting might encourage people to shop at the downtown shops for the Sizzlin’ Summer Sale, which will be on Sept. 7, 8 and 9. The organizer of the sale, Karla White, said merchants would stay open later and that she would also like to encourage other civic groups to set up booths downtown during that time. She said interested groups could call Cindy Sholar at 522-8756 for a setup site.
