Only fifteen seconds into the game, Laykn Brooks scored the quickest goal in Trigg County girl’s soccer history. Head coach Mike Smith said he had not even had enough time to get the stat sheet out yet.
Melanie Want added another goal off of a Taylor Davis corner kick only minutes later.
“I think the new field and new uniforms helped propel us,” said Smith of his much improved team.
Twenty minutes into the game, new comer Amber Townsend sent a ball into the net that was actually helped out by a Todd County player, but looked as if it would have scored without the opponents help.
“I was very pleased with the first half of play,” said Smith.
Trigg County came out a bit complacent in the second half and allowed Todd to create a few chances and get a couple of shots off. The Wildcat’s quickly turned it around, though, and Brooks put in another goal around 10 minutes into the half. After that, coach Smith was able to get a few different faces into the game and let some kids gain some valuable experience. A few veteran players were able to get some looks at different positions as well.
