Residents of the Cherokee Hills and Apache Heights Subdivisions learned last week that their five-year quest to see their roads repaired reached fruition. Kentucky Department of Transportation District Engineer Jim LeFevre offered the county $200,000 for emergency road improvements during the regular meeting of the Trigg County Fiscal Court. With a unanimous vote, the county accepted the aid.

LeFevre told the court that the Transportation Cabinet had made the City of a similar previously, with the stipulation that all litigation between homeowners and the City of Cadiz cease.

The city did not take the offer after the suit’s plaintiffs requested payment of legal fees up until that date. The city refused to pay. Following final settlement in the case the City will still be responsible for those fees, plus costs added to the case since that time.

Former Plaintiff George Zering said that at the time of the offer, the plaintiffs had won every case heard in court, and believed that all suits against the city would be resolved in their favor.

LeFevere’s proposal called for filling in several low spots in the road with rock, and paving the roads with asphalt, contingent on the county accepting the roads into the county road plan for maintenance.
