Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins said that jurors deliberated for nearly four-and-a-half hours before reporting to the judge that they were hopelessly deadlocked and could not reach a unanimous verdict.
Knight is accused of shooting his stepson, Robert Hamilton, on August 5, 2006. During what Kentucky State Police investigators said began as a verbal altercation, Knight is alleged to have shot Hamilton in the neck with a .380 caliber pistol.
Ovey-Wiggins said that the defense argued that of three shots fired during the altercation, two were fired as self defense and the third that struck Hamilton was an accident.
