On Friday morning, Trigg County Schools will be paying tribute to their students’ grandparents by sending them home with full stomachs.

Community Education Coordinator Brenda Southwick said the school system would be hosting a grandparent appreciation breakfast at 7:25 a.m. on Sept. 7 in the district’s cafeteria in the middle school. This is to mark National Grandparents Day, which is officially on the following Sunday, Sept. 9. She said a large amount of grandparents in Trigg County are the legal guardians of students and that they deserve a lot of thanks.

“Whether they’re in that role or not, they’re still valuable in the child’s education,” she said.

Southwick said she expected a good turnout and that 184 grandparents attended the free breakfast with their grandchildren last year. She said the food service staff was planning for about 225 this year.
