Kentucky State Police officials identified the victim as Jose Diaz Delgado, of Atlanta, Ga. According to the report, Delgado’s 1995 red Chevrolet Camero left the roadway for unknown reasons and struck the crash attenuator at the East Adams Mill Road Overpass, ricocheted off a guardrail and came to rest in the left-hand lane on the eastbound side of the road in which he traveled. The accident closed the left-hand lane for an hour while police investigated and cleared the road for traffic.
Trooper First Class C.G. Anderson speculated that Delgado’s hand might have been outside the vehicle prior to the collision. The KSP report said that due to a lack of pre-impact corrective steering or braking may indicate that Delgado may have fallen asleep while driving. The report said that Delgado wore his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
